食料品店
Although there are no supermarkets in Cambridge dedicated to selling Japanese food and drink, the selection below should be able to supply you with the basics. The best place to start is Mill Road:
Seoul Plaza (91-93 Mill Road CB1 2AW) stocks a good selection of food and drink from Korea and other countries in East Asia, including Japan.
Cho Mee Chinese and Malaysian Supermarket (108-110 Mill Road CB1 2BD) also stocks the Japanese basics such as rice, nori (dried seaweed), wasabi and frozen edamame (soya beans).
Winfield Chinese Supermarket (58 Mill Road CB1 2AS), like Cho Mee, stocks a variety of imported food from East Asia, and not just Chinese.
You also find basic Japanese ingredients in the larger supermarkets:
Tesco offers amongst other things sushi rice, nori and miso soup. They also stock one brand of Japanese sake, Choya, which is worth a go and arguably best served chilled.
Sainsbury's also has some stock of Japanese food and sells Hakutsuru sake from Kobe.
If you are looking for sashimi quality fish, you may struggle in Cambridge. Good quality tuna steaks from supermarkets could potentially be sliced up and eaten raw, but you'll be lucky to find any other fresh fish up to the standard. A trip to the Japan Centre in London may be the best place to find fish that's good enough for sushi and sashimi.
